The Essex House of Framing has been in business since
March of 1978. We originally opened
next door to Centerbrook Architects in what is now a white colonial with a
financial office. In 1981, we moved to our present location and this
has been a work in progress ever since. The house was originally built as a two family residence by the drill bit factory which now houses the architects. The bottom floor had a walk-out basement area which was finished for living purposes. This part of the house was converted into the first shop until 1985 when a separate building was relocated and attached to the house by a connecting breezeway. It goes without saying that this has been a continuous project and we would like to thank all of those who have supported us over the years. We do an assortment of custom picture framing jobs. We do not carry ready made frames because of the storage limitation here and also because I really do prefer to do custom work. We also specialize in French Matting. We are going to carry a full line of museum quality hand made frames in the near future as soon as I can get a full set of corner samples. Browse through the website, there are hundreds of samples to see already. The matting chips are relatively close to actual depending on your monitor settings but at least one can get an idea of the available colors. I do have antique maps and prints to display soon and will get to them as soon as possible. Should you have any questions, e-mail me at the address below. I have included a map and directions below. |
